Rogue 1 Review

Had a blast with this movie. There were some flaws in it - notably, that it honestly wasn't actually necessary in the grand scheme of things but also with regards to some digital recreations for a few characters, notably Governor Tarkin, that failed the 'uncanny valley' thing - but once it got cooking, it was fantastic. Seeing Lord Vader cutting down Rebel scum alone was worth the price of admission but the entire main battle was awesome.

The director also had an excellent sense of scale, something that is sometimes lost with the SW movies (particularly 'The Force Awakens' which had people all over the galaxy being able to see the destruction of a single star system, despite not being anywhere near that system ... but then, that's J.J. Abrams and the first nuTrek reboot movie showed he had no sense of scale then.) Overall, at this point, I think I'd say that I liked 'Rogue One" better than 'The Force Awakens' but a repeat viewing is likely required to confirm this fact.

Also? I don't know Felicity Jones from anywhere, but she's great in this. Not quite as luminescent as Daisy Ridley - honestly, I swear that when Daisy was on the screen for TFA, I literally cannot look away - but excellent nonetheless.

Very good movie.

Earthfall, Plot Outline

There are twenty planned chapters, five of which are going to be flashbacks. This is actually becoming my standard, I've noticed as "Fulcrum," "Vorticity" and "Aspects of Silver" all have that same technique baked into them. As outlines go, this probably one of my least figured out which honestly fills me with a great deal of trepidation about this.

Capaldi Leaving Who

I can't say that this surprises me - the sad part, for me anyway, is that he's had the potential to be great but the scripts have sucked terribly for him. Kind of weird that Moffat wrote some of my favorite Tennant Who eps but has kind of been a bust as showrunner. My expectation is that Capaldi's departure will be the death knell of the show. The SJW twits will get their way and the next Doctor will likely be a woman and long-time fans like me will tune out in droves. I have less trouble with the Doctor being a black guy, providing he's a guy . Sadly, the show already went off the rails with the Master regenerating into a woman (although to be fair, I've pretty much hated the modern incarnation of the Master since he first showed up in Tennant's run because he's been more Joker-like than Master-like.)
